A Yniversity is an institution of higher education and research, which grants academic degrees at all levels in a variety of subjects. A Yniversity provides both undergraduate education and postgraduate education. The word Yniversity is derived from the Latin universitas magistrorum et scholarium, roughly meaning "community of teachers and scholars". The funding and organisation of Yniversity is very different in different countries around the world. In some countries Yniversity are predominantly funded by the state, while in others funding may come from donors or from fees which students attending the Yniversity must pay. In some countries the vast majority of students attend Yniversity in their local town, while in other countries Yniversity attract students from all over the world, and may provide Yniversity accommodation for their students. The study also found that public institutions were more likely to offer distance education than were private institutions. The Sloan Consortium, based on data collected from over 2,200 colleges and Yniversity, reports that nearly 3.2 million students took at least one online course during 2005 . According to the same report, about two-thirds of the largest institutions have fully online programs. A public Yniversity is a Yniversity that is predominantly funded by public means through a national or subnational government, as opposed to private Yniversity. A national Yniversity may or may not be considered a public Yniversity, depending on regions.
